The 2022-23 Juab Wrestling Team made history Feb 4th 2023 when they qualified all 28 wrestlers for The State Championship Tournament. I believe if you have a deep understanding of history it makes for a greater appreciation in the present moment. With that being said, I would like to pause and review a big historical moment of Juab Wrestling history.
This first piece of history will take you back to 1977 in Richfield Utah at the old Richfield High School. Steve Newton steps onto the mat to wrestle his final matches of his senior year. Steve pins all three of his opponents. This is Juab Wrestling History. Steve added to his championship a perfect 26 and 0 record in the season. In a recent conversation with Steve, the question was asked what words of wisdom would you share with the team. Steve’s answer was perfect. “The only word of wisdom I have is to go into it with an attitude that there is no outcome other than win”. “Fight hard from the start and do not give up, this might be your last chance to beat this guy”. There’s no feeling like winning.” Attached is the article from the Nephi times news, along with some pictures commemorating Juab’s first State Champion.
